Payscale: Insight Lab

Lead Product Designer
2018-2020

When I joined Payscale in the summer of 2018, Insight Lab was a fairly new product offering, having launched as a beta in late 2016. As more customers where onboarded to this new product, it became obvious that Insight Lab was not a “one-size fits all” solution.

My first challenge upon joining the company, was to breakdown Insight Lab into 3 different workflows and deliver a framework that allowed Payscale to offer pricing packages to meet the needs of each of these customer segments. “Lab Core”was the comprehensive experience, with the other work streams being seamless add-on “turn off/on” functionality. This streamlined the sales and implementation process dramatically.

We hit 124% TCV target in first quarter and increased customer base, resulting in a YOY growth of 51%.

New Product Features, Redesign & UX Cleanup

Over the course of my time working on Insight Lab, I was responsible for the continued design of the product, it’s user experience and new product features. Some highlights include:

  • Redesigning the dashboard and job details pages, giving customers the information they really want and need

  • Employee Analytics and reporting

  • How customers manage their 3rd-party salary surveys (add-on feature).

  • UX updates to the process of pricing a job

  • Management of data, users, access levels and integrations. (ADP, Bamboo HR, Ultipro)

  • Quality of design details in final builds that shipped

  • Supporting our Team product (an add-on product with Lab integration).

Updating the product’s UX lead to a 42% reduction in support tickets and an increased NPS (net promoter score) of 53 points.
